Below are some of Origins Weekly's favorite flowering plants(angiosperms). Flowering plants are plants that bear fruit and flowers. There are approx. 300,000 species of plants with many that are still unknown or undiscovered.


Here are 5 of the most beautiful flowers in no particular order. Let's just enjoy the beauty!

  1. Zygopetalum Orchid

Zygopetalum is an orchid found in tropical South America and related to other genera. As far as growth conditions, they grow well in partial shade and humid conditions. They are a fantastic spectacle and are very fragrant.


Colors: Green, purple, brown, white

USDA Hardiness Zone: 9 to 10

Mature Size: 4 inches to 2ft tall

This is the Bearded Iris or Iris Germanica. This plant grows up to 47 inches high and 12 inches wide. This plant's flower blooms mid to late spring and has hundreds of cultivars.


Colors: Red, yellow, blue, purple brown.

USDA Hardiness Zone: 3 to 9

Mature Size: 12-40 inches tall



3. Hyacinth ( Hyacinthus orientals)

Hyacinth ( Hyacinthus orientals) is a plant that produces beautifully colored spikes and has a strong floral scent.


USDA Hardiness Zones: 4 to 8

Colors: White, blue, purple, pink, red

Mature Size: 6–12 inches tall


4. Delphinium (Delphinium elatum)


Delphinium (Delphinium elatum) has some of the most beautiful shades of blue. The previous flowering plants are typically purple or lavender colors, so we decided to switch it up a bit with a plant that has some more versatility. The delphinium plant not only has a blue shade but can blossom robust violet and purple flowers as well. This flowering plant grows well in cool or mid-summer temperatures(not in humidity).

Colors: Blue & violet

Mature Size: 3-5 ft tall


5. English Rose


The English rose is one of the most fragrant flowering plants. It is a cross between old-fashioned and modern-day roses.



USDA Hardiness Zones: 4 to 9

Colors: Orange, pink, red, white, and yellow

Mature Size: 1 to 3 feet.
